Over the Counter Drugs vs Essential Oils

Oils

Drugs versus Oils

Drugs and oils work in opposite ways. Drugs toxify. Oils detoxify. Drugs clog and confuse receptor sites. Oils clean receptor sites.
Drugs depress the immune system. Oils strengthen the immune system. Antibiotics attack bacteria indiscriminately, killing both the good and the bad. Oils attack only the harmful bacteria, allowing our body’s friendly flora to flourish.
Drugs are one-dimensional, programmed like robots to carry out certain actions in the body, whether the body can benefit from them or not. When body conditions change, drugs keep on doing what they were doing, even when their actions are no longer beneficial.
Essential oils are multi-dimensional, filled with homeostatic intelligence to restore the body to a state of healthy balance. When body conditions change, oils adapt, raising or lowering blood pressure as needed, stimulating or repressing enzyme activity as needed, energizing or relaxing as needed. Oils are smart. Drugs are dumb.
Drugs are designed to send misinformation to cells or block certain receptor sites in order to trick the body into giving up symptoms. But drugs never deal with the actual causes of disease. They aren’t designed for that purpose. While they may give prompt relief for certain uncomfortable symptoms, because of their strange, unnatural design, they will always disrupt certain other bodily functions. Thus, you always have some side effects.
Oil molecules send information to cells and cleanse receptor sites so that they bring your body back to natural function. Oils are balancing to the body. Drugs are unbalancing to the body. Oils address the causes of disease at a cellular level by deleting misinformation and reprogramming correct information so that cells function properly and in harmony with one another. With drugs, misinformation is fed into the cells so that some temporary relief may be obtained, but there is never any true healing. Drugs only trade one kind of disease for another.
Because essential oils properly applied always work toward the restoration of proper bodily function, they do not cause undesirable side effects. They are feeding the body with truth. Drugs feed the body with lies. While no amount of truth can contradict itself, it doesn’t take many lies before contradictions occur and the body suffers ill effects.

10 Natural Ways to Heal Yourself

1. Tea Tree: Distilled from the Australian plant Melaleuca alternifloria, tea tree is one of the oils that can be used topically -- good news, because it's great for treating skin problems like fungus and blemishes. You can dab it on acne blemishes with a cotton swab to help clear your skin, or apply it to skin fungal infections like athlete's foot. It's also found in many skin care products.
2. Lavender: "Lavender is one of the most versatile oils,” Scarpelli said. "It is more commonly known for its relaxing effects but works on bruises, cuts, and skin irritation too.” Dr. Oz says that the scent of lavender can reduce the levels of stress hormones in your blood. That’s a good reason to put a few drops in your bath in order to help you relax at night. Scarpelli recommends putting a couple of drops of the oil on your hands, rubbing them together and inhaling, then sprinkle a few more on your pillow before you hop in bed.
3. Calendula: Bright-orange calendula flowers are also known as marigold. Calendula can be used in a variety of forms, include as an essential oil. It's particularly good for sensitive skin and can be used to reduce the appearance of acne scars. You can also put a drop in your bath water to soothe psoriasis.
4. Chamomile: You're probably familiar with chamomile used as a tea, but the essential oil has similar properties. It's particularly well known for its relaxing effects, which is why the tea is popular to drink before bed. Add to the effect with a few drops of the oil on your pillowcase.
5. Peppermint: "Peppermint purifies and stimulates the mind. It also can increase mental alertness,” Scarpelli advised. "Dr. William N. Denver of the University of Cinncinati found that inhaling peppermint oil increased mental accuracy by 28 percent.” Peppermint oil is also one of just a handful of oils that can be taken internally, which is fortunate because it’s a great recipe to help indigestion — just mix a few drops in water and drink.
6. Frankincense: Nina Nelson of the blog Shalom Mama says that frankincense is a must-have essential oil in her home. She uses it both for relaxation, such as in baths, and to help minor cuts and bug bites heal more quickly. "Frankincense has been used for thousands of years,” Scarpelli said. "It can be used for depression, inflammation, immunity, and to increase spiritual awareness."
7. Oregano: You may have heard of oil of oregano as a flu fighter. This strong-tasting oil has naturally antibacterial qualities, which is why many think it can help to fight colds and other sicknesses. It is taken topically, often by putting a few drops on the tongue — the taste isn't pleasant but many people swear by it during flu season.
8. Lemon: "Lemon oil can be used not only to detox the body but it can also help with acne,” Scarpelli said. If you want a healthy boost in alertness, a bit of lemon oil mixed 50:50 with a carrier is a great way to give your head a lift. Because of its uplifiting properties, lemon essential oil is also good for increasing focus and concentration. As a bonus, it can help keep fleas away when used on your pets.
9. Grapefruit: Another citrus oil, grapefruit essential oil has properties similar to lemon oil. It's a great choice for people experiencing fatigue and it can help you deal with the effects of jet lag. It's also a natural antiseptic so you can add it to your homemade household cleansers to keep your home safe and clean.
10. Eucalyptus: This is a great oil to have on hand if you get frequent colds or suffer from allergies that affect your breathing and make you congested. "Eucalyptus can be used to relieve sore muscles and help clear sinuses,” Scarpelli said. "It also has many antibacterial properties and has been known to stimulate the immune system." Use it in a vaporizer to loosen up a congested chest or apply it diluted to the inside of your nose to relieve nasal congestion. But never ingest it or use it on your skin undiluted, as it can be irritating.

Anti Congestion 10+ years and up Essential Oil Blends

Please use responsibly and do not over-use. Eucalyptus is appropriate to use for this age group, so I’ve included it in the blend along with Peppermint. You may wish to replace all of the Peppermint with Eucalyptus if you wish! Totally a matter of preference :)
NOTE: These recipes were created for children aged 10+ years. I am keeping the dilutions the same as the previous age group (2-3%) although ages 15+ can use up to a 5% dilution if necessary.
Anti-Germ Blend recipeages 10+
Combine in a 5ml bottle:
  • 30 drops Sweet Orange Citrus sinensis
  • 20 drops Clove (Bud, Leaf, or Stem) Zyzygium aromaticum
  • 20 drops Cinnamon Leaf Cinnamomum verum
  • 15 drops Peppermint Mentha Piperita
  • 15 drops Eucalyptus Eucalyptus globulus, Eucalyptus radiata, Eucalyptus divies, Eucalyptus smithii
Ideally, you should add 15 drops to an inhaler and inhale before and after being exposed to germs. This is the most effective, along with using the Hand Spray recipe below.
Although inhalation is more effective than topical use, you can use it in a massage blend by combining 2 drops of this blend per teaspoon (5ml) of carrier oil for a 2% dilution if your child has been exposed to germs.
For other volumes using a 2% dilution, see the chart here: Properly Diluting Essential Oils.
Note: You can bump it up to 3% dilution if your child is sick.
Anti-Germ Hand Spray recipe
ages 10+, 2% dilution
In a 2 ounce fingertip sprayer combine:
  • 1 1/2 ounces (3 TBSP) witch hazel
  • 2 tsp almond oil (or oil of your choice)

Note: If you need to boost this blend, you may increase to a 3% dilution by adding an additional 12 drops per ounce of the liquids in your hand spray (for a total of 36 drops per 2 ounce bottle).
Although the Anti-Germ Blend recipe will be successful for both keeping germs away andhelping with congestion, I have provided a blend with a bit more Peppermint/Eucalyptus and less Cinnamon Leaf/Clove as an option. I have called this my Anti-Congestion Blend recipe.

3-5 years Cold and Flu Season Essential Oil Blends

Please use responsibly and do not over-use. Clove (Bud, Leaf, or Stem) is appropriate to use for this age group, so the blends now contain Clove. You may continue to use the recipe for age 6 months – 2 years and just increase the dilution.
NOTE: These recipes were created for children aged 3 years and up to aged 5 years. However, they may be used by older children as well. If you prefer a stronger dilution for your older children, keep reading! I have those recipes available further down on the page.

Combine in a 5ml bottle:
  • 30 drops Sweet Orange Citrus sinensis
  • 20 drops Clove (Bud, Leaf, or Stem) Zyzygium aromaticum
  • 20 drops Cinnamon Leaf Cinnamomum verum*
  • 25 drops Fir Needle Abies sibirica
*Feel free to exchange the Cinnamon Leaf for Lavender Lavandula angustifolia
For this age group, diffusing into the air by adding 10 or so drops to your diffuser is the most gentle and can still be effective.
You can make an inhaler by adding 10 drops to an inhaler, waving the inhaler under your child’s nose before and after being exposed to germs. Inhalation via an inhaler is a more concentrated route of inhalation than diffusion.
Inhalation (via diffuser or inhaler) is more effective than topical use, but you can use it in a massage blend by combining 1 drop of this blend per teaspoon (5ml) of carrier oil for a 1% dilution if your child has been exposed to germs.
For other volumes using a 1% dilution, see the chart here: Properly Diluting Essential Oils.
