3-5 years Cold and Flu Season Essential Oil Blends

Please use responsibly and do not over-use. Clove (Bud, Leaf, or Stem) is appropriate to use for this age group, so the blends now contain Clove. You may continue to use the recipe for age 6 months – 2 years and just increase the dilution.
NOTE: These recipes were created for children aged 3 years and up to aged 5 years. However, they may be used by older children as well. If you prefer a stronger dilution for your older children, keep reading! I have those recipes available further down on the page.
Anti-Germ Blend recipeages 3 – 5 years (and up!)
Combine in a 5ml bottle:
  • 30 drops Sweet Orange Citrus sinensis
  • 20 drops Clove (Bud, Leaf, or Stem) Zyzygium aromaticum
  • 20 drops Cinnamon Leaf Cinnamomum verum*
  • 25 drops Fir Needle Abies sibirica
*Feel free to exchange the Cinnamon Leaf for Lavender Lavandula angustifolia
For this age group, diffusing into the air by adding 10 or so drops to your diffuser is the most gentle and can still be effective.
You can make an inhaler by adding 10 drops to an inhaler, waving the inhaler under your child’s nose before and after being exposed to germs. Inhalation via an inhaler is a more concentrated route of inhalation than diffusion.
Inhalation (via diffuser or inhaler) is more effective than topical use, but you can use it in a massage blend by combining 1 drop of this blend per teaspoon (5ml) of carrier oil for a 1% dilution if your child has been exposed to germs.
For other volumes using a 1% dilution, see the chart here: Properly Diluting Essential Oils.
Note: You can bump it up to 2% dilution if your child is sick.
Anti-Germ Hand Spray recipe
ages 3 – 5 years (and up!)1% dilution
In a 2 ounce fingertip sprayer combine:
  • 1 1/2 ounces (3 TBSP) witch hazel
  • 2 tsp almond oil (or oil of your choice)
  • 12 drops Anti-Germ Blend (recipe above)
Note: If you need to boost this blend, you may increase to a 2% dilution by adding an additional 12 drops per ounce of the liquids in your hand spray (for a total of 24 drops per 2 ounce bottle).
Although the Anti-Germ Blend recipe will be successful for both keeping germs away andhelping with congestion, I have provided a blend with a bit more Siberian Fir Needle and less Cinnamon Leaf/Clove as an option. I have called this my Anti-Congestion Blend recipe.
Anti-Congestion Blend recipeages 3 – 5 years (and up!)
